Are You a Candidate for Transplant?
Depending on your diagnosis, you may be a candidate for a transplant
If you’ve been diagnosed with end stage renal disease (ESRD), there is a good chance you are a candidate for kidney transplant.
If your ESRD is caused by Type I diabetes mellitus, you may be a good candidate for a kidney-pancreas transplant at the same time.
If you have a functioning transplanted kidney and you have Type I diabetes mellitus, you may be a good candidate for pancreas transplant after your kidney transplant.
If you have Type I diabetes and frequently experience low blood sugar that results in drowsiness, passing out or fainting (hypoglycemic unawareness) or very high blood sugar levels that force the body to break down fat for energy (diabetic ketoacidosis), but do not have ESRD, you may be a good candidate for pancreas transplant alone.
